Laker Women Claim Sixth Straight GLIAC Outdoor T&F Title

Allendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's track & field team dominated the 2005 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and outdistanced second place Ashland by 66 points. GVSU won the two-day event with 259 points while Ashland tallied 193 points. The 2005 title was the sixth straight GLIAC outdoor title for the GVSU women and the 259 points established a GLIAC record for points scored at the GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

GVSU once again dominated the middle distance and distance events. Mandi Zemba won the 1500 (4:34.43) and 3000 (10:10.89), while finishing third in the 800 (2:13.29). Krista O'Dell won the 800 (2:11.95) and finished third in the 3000 (10:11.76) and 1500 (4:39.25). Karlie Singleton won the 5000 (17:57.02) and finished fourth in the 3000 (10:20.30). Lauren Bader was fifth in both the 1500 (4:40.25) and 3000 (10:23.14). Adrian Chouinard, who won the 10,000, placed second in the 5000 (17:58.67). Jen O'Shesky was third in the 100 hurdles (14.67), while Jun Tulpa was fourth (15.06). April Szatkowski finished fourth in the 100 (12.56) and seventh in the 200 (26.14). Katie Mandziara finished sixth in both the 200 (26.13) and 400 (58.67). Pam Treppa finished second in both the long jump and triple jump, while Morgan Acre added her second GLIAC title of the meet with a first place finish in the discus. Merideth Devries won the high jump and the Lakers finished second in the 4x100 and third in the 4x400.
 

 

Morgan Acre was named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year for field events with her two GLIAC titles, while Jerry Baltes was named Women's Coach of the Year for the fifth time in six years. The outdoor title also marked the straight year the Lakers have swept all three GLIAC titles (cross country, indoor T&F and outdoor T&F).
