Lakers Dominate Day One At GLIAC Track & Field Championships With 98 Points

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State dominated day one of the 2005 GLIAC Track & Field Championships with 98 points and lead second place Ashland by 62 points heading into the second and final day of competition. Day two will begin at 11 p.m. in Lubbers Stadium on the campus of Grand Valley State.

GVSU qualified 19 into the finals on day two, but the Lakers also dominated all of the scorig events on day one, highlighted by a 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault. Rachel Duthler, Katie Wilkins and Lindsey Jones scored 24 points and Bethany Hecksel added four with a fifth place finish. The Lakers also dominated the 3000-meter steeplechase with 18 points. Rae Russell, Stephanie Kandas, Laura Aderman and Karmen Schmidt claimed third through sixth and finished withing 25 seconds of one another. Adrian Chouinard continued a day one stellar showing by winning the 10000-meter run in 38:19.82. Stacey Kandas finished third (38:42.23) and Natalie Ewing fifth (39:01.35) in the 10,000. Sophomore Morgan Acre won the hammer throw, Lindsey Jacob finished first in the javelin and Pam Treppa was second in the triple jump.
