Grand Valley State finished in third place with 103 points at the Jack Shaw Classic hosted by Western Michigan. Western Michigan won the meet with 240 points and Central Michigan finished in second place with 138 points. The Lakers will compete at the Hillsdale Gina Relays Thursday-Saturday of this week.
Senior Mandi Zemba set her third school record of the spring, winning the 3000 meter run in an NCAA Qualifying time of 9:29.54. She broke Krista O'Dell's old record of 9:42.93 from 2005. Zemba has tallied three automatic qualifying times this season in the 1500, 3000, and 5000 and is ranked #1 in Division II in all three events.
Six other Lakers recorded NCAA Qualifying marks as well. Senior Lindsey Jones took third in the pole vault with a height of 12'1.5 and junior Morgan Acre won the hammer throw with a mark of 53.21m. Sophomore Karlie Singleton took second in the 3000 with a time of 10:06.71, while freshman Laura Aderman placed third in a time of 10:16.41. Sophomore Susie Rivard finished in third place in the 1500 meter run with a qualifying time of 4:42.25. Senior Pamela Treppa took third in the triple jump with a mark of 38'2.
"This was a nice opportunity for us to compete against some very good Division I teams in Western and Central Michigan," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "We had some nice results throughout the day and I think it was a great learning experience for us."
