Results

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State earned a seventh place finish at the 2003 NCAA Indoor National Championships in Boston, Mass. over the weekend with 28 points. GVSU was three points out of fourth and 9.5 points ahead of eighth. St. Augustine's won the championship with 73 points. The Lakers earned All-American plaudits in nine different events. Krista O'Dell and Icis Charles earned All-American honors in two individual events, while Steph Kuhlman placed second in the 800m and led the 4 x 400 relay squad to a fifth place finish. It was the second straight season GVSU has posted a top 10 finish in the nation after placing ninth at last year's championship meet.

Steph Kuhlman led the Lakers in the second day of competition as she finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:07.47. Kuhlman was two-tenths of a second off the pace after setting a new NCAA DII record in the event in the preliminaries. Kuhlman led the 4 x 400 relay squad to an all-american finish with a time of 3:49.80. Krista O'Dell earned all-american finishes in both the mile and the 5000m. O'Dell placed fifth in the mile at 4:52.47, and eighth in the 5000m (17:06.61), while fellow Laker Shannon Antvelink placed 10th and 15th in the same events.

Icis Charles earned her second all-american honors of the meet with a third place finish in the 60m as she posted a time of 7.50. Charles placed fourth in the long jump on Friday. It is the fourth time Charles has earned all-american plaudits in the indoor track season.

Becky Meyers also placed 10th in the weight throw with a distance of 52'5.5" on Saturday.
