University Center, Mich. - Grand Valley State claimed its 10th straight GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championship Saturday in dominating fashion at Saginaw Valley State's Ryder Center. The Lakers tallied a team score of 205 points, easily outdistancing Ashland's second place total of 134 points. Hillsdale College finished third with 77 points. Following is a look at how the Lakers finished event-by-event. The Lakers claimed seven GLIAC titles.
60 Meter Dash
Junior Candice Wheat (Pontiac, Mich./Northern) claimed the GLIAC title and hit the NCAA provisional mark with a time of 7.67. Freshman Serena Black (Portage, Mich./Nothern) finished seventh as the Lakers score 12 points in the event.
200 Meter Dash
Sophomore Amber Triner (Winfield, Ill.) finished fourth in a time of 26.10, while Serena Black came back from her seventh-place finish in the 60 meter dash to claim fifth in the 200 with a time of 26.30. The Lakers scored nine points in the event.
400 Meter Dash
Junior Kirsten Nozime (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant) claimed the GLIAC title and hit the NCAA provisional mark when she crossed the finish line in 57.46. Fellow junior and teammate Kayla Vallar (Marshall, Mich.) finished second and also hit the NCAA provisional mark as she crossed the finish line in 57.66. The Lakers scored 18 points in the event with their 1-2 finish.
800 Meter Run
Grand Valley State dominated the 800 meter run, placing four among the top eight. Freshman Monica Kinney (Walker, Mich./West Catholic) continued her stellar freshman campaign as she claimed her first GLIAC title and hit the NCAA Automatic quailifying mark again in the 800 as she crossed the finish line in a time of 2:11.98. Junior Katherine McCarthy (Walker, Mich./Kenowa Hills) finished third and hit the NCAA provisional mark with her time of 2:15.06, while junior Katie Alfredson (Muskegon, Mich./Reeths Puffer) also hit the NCAA provisional mark with her fifth-place finish in a time of 2:16.00. Junior Stephanie Ostrenga (Escanaba, Mich.) finished seventh with a time of 2:19.04 as the Lakers score 22 points.

Mile Run
Grand Valley State continued its distance dominance placing four among the top eight and scoring 15 points. Freshman Karie McDonald (Frankenmuth, Mich.) finished third and hit the NCAA provisional mark with her time of 5:01.31, while senior Susie Rivard (Brighton, Mich.) finished fourth (5:02.50) and also hit the NCAA provisional mark. Junior Eileen Creutz (Saline, Mich.) crossed the finish line sixth in a time of 5:08.56 and sophomore Rebecca Winchester (Wayland, Mich./Middleville) was eighth (5:13.66).
3000 Meter Run
Sophomore Megan Maceratini (Livonia, Mich./Winston Churchhill) finished second (10:05.52), followed by sophomore Lori Burgess (Byron Center, Mich./South Christian) in sixth (10:27.66) and sophomore Jessie Vickers (Dexter, Mich.) in eighth (10:33.27) as GVSU scored 12 points.
5000 Meter Run
Freshman Shaylee Vanderbaan (Grandville, Mich./Jenison) hit the NCAA provisional mark and finished second with a time of 17:20.45 Friday night, while Sara Parks (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Kentwood) finished third with a time of 17:53.57. GVSU scored 14 points in the event.
60 Meter Hurdles
GVSU placed four among the top eight and scored 17 points. Candice Wheat claimed her second GLIAC title at the 2009 GLIAC Championships as she hit the NCAA Automatic qualifying mark and set a Ryder Center record with her time of 8.37. Amber Triner finished fifth (9.22), freshman Jade Hull (Grandville, Mich.) seventh (9.30) and junior Danielle Fonseca (Varrie Ontario) eighth (9.39).
4x400 Meter Relay
The Lakers hit the NCAA provisional mark and finished first with a time of 3:55.42. Nozime led off, followed by Vallar, Hull and Wheat.
Distance Medley
The defending National Champion GVSU medley relay team claimed the GLIAC title, hit the NCAA Automatic mark and set the Ryder Center record with a time of 11:44.32. Kinney led off, followed by McDonald, Rivard and K. McCarthy.
High Jump
Defending National Champion Maegan Doyen (Manistee, Mich.) hit the NCAA provisional mark and finished second with a jump of 5-07.25. Senior Heather VanderSlik (Holland, Mich./Hamilton) finished third with a jump of 5-05.25 as GVSU scored 14 points in the high jump.
Pole Vault
Grand Valley State turned in a dominating performance in the pole vault with a 1-2-3 finish, followed by a fifth and scored 28 points. Senior Dianna Noonan (Frankfort, Ill.) set a GLIAC Championship meet and Ryder Center record with her vault of 13-05.25, which also was an NCAA automatic mark. Freshman Jocelyn Kuksa (Palatine, Ind.) hit the NCAA provisional with her second-place finish (11-11.75) in the pole vault, while senior Kellie Kieren (Grant, Mich.) also hit the NCAA provisional mark with her third-place finish (11-11.75). Freshman Emily McKerchie (Scottville, Mich./Ludington) turned in a fifth-place finish with her vault of 11-05.75.
Shot Put/Weight Throw
Freshman Molly Poel (Bellaire, Mich.) finished third and hit the NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw with her toss of 56-11.50, while her throw of 41-07.25 in the shot put was good for eighth.
Pentathlon
Kuksa finished second in the women's pentathlon with an NCAA DII provisional point total of 3,218. In addition, junior Stephanie McCarthy (Walker, Mich./Kenowa Hills) finished fourth with 3,173 points, meeting yet another NCAA DII provisional mark. Junior Amber Pearsall (Milford, Mich.) tallied a fifth-place finish with 3,098 points as GVSU scored 17 team points.
