Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State won 10 different events in the Grand Rapids Championships in the GVSU Fieldhouse on Friday night. Four of the event winners improved their qualifying times for the NCAA DII National Championship meet. The qualifiers include Katie Willis who won the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.21, Natalie Ewing with a time of 5:05.32 in the mile and Icis Charles who jumped 19'1.75 in the long jump. The women's 4x400 relay also improved their qualifying time to 3:51.15.
Krista O'Dell won the 800 in 2:15.72, while Lisa Fishel won the 3000 with a time of 10:54.49. Alexandra Baker placed first in the 55 hurdles (8.54) while Leanna Lowe won the high jump (5'4"). Lisa Fishel and Becky Meyers were the Lakers final two winners in the 5000 (10:54.49) and weight throw (54'7.5"), respectively.
GVSU will compete in the GLIAC Indoor Championships next weekend (Feb. 28-Mar. 1) at Saginaw Valley State.
