Grand Valley State set three school records Friday night as they hosted the GVSU Open, which is the final home meet of the indoor track season. The Lakers will travel to the University of Findlay for the GLIAC Championships next weekend.

For the women, Rachel Duthler set the school record in the pole vault, clearing a jump of 11'6". April Szatkowski placed first in the 55 meter dash, recording a time of 7.31 and won the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.66. Pam Treppa finished second in the long jump (18-04.00) and second in the triple jump (34-07.75), while Jennifer O'Shesky won the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.46. Natalie Ewing improved her time in the 1 mile, finishing with a time of 5:01.34, Ashley Thomas won the 400 meter dash (57.56), and Krista O'Dell tallied a first place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.64.

On the men's side, John Ybarra broke GVSU's school record in the shot put, recording a throw of 56-08.00. The previous record was held by Jason VanElst of 55-07.00, which was set in 2001. Ben Hirdes also tied his school record of 16'6" in the pole vault. Joe LeFever finished first in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.90 and second in the long jump with a mark of 22-01.00. Kirk Manchip won both the long jump (22-09.75) and the triple jump (46-08.75). Justin Adamec won the 400 meter dash, finishing with a time of 50.48, and Jeff Vyain took third place in the 1 mile run (4:20.45).
