UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Maegan Doyen and Molly Poel both provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Collegiate Open at the Ryder Center on Friday night. Doyen qualified in the high jump and Poel qualified in the weight throw. Dianna Noonan set a meet record with a pole vault of 4.00 meters.
Candice Wheat and Amber Triner took second and third place in the 200-meter dash. Wheat finished in 25.61 seconds and Triner was right behind her at 26.16 seconds. Kayla Vallar picked up a second-place finish of her own, crossing the finish line in 58.83 seconds in the 400-meter dash. Wheat also hit an automatically qualifying mark in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.60 seconds in the preliminaries before finishing second in the finals at 8.90 seconds.
Heather VanderSlik and Doyen both cleared 1.67 meters in the high jump. VanderSlik took first with Doyen right behind in second. GVSU took the top four spots in the pole vault, with Noonan's meet-record vault taking first. Jocelyn Kuksa and Kellie Kieren were second and third at 3.70 meters and Emily McKerchie took fourth at 3.40 meters.
The top three spots in the shot put were all Grand Valley State, too. Melanie Huhn was first with a distance of 13.19 meters, followed by Poel at 13.06 meters and Jessica Rutherford at 12.67 meters. Poel's qualifying throw of 16.38 meters in the weight throw earned her first place.
