Grand Valley State sent its 800 and mile student-athletes to the University of Notre Dame on Saturday to run against top notch Division I competition. The Lakers were led by sophomore John Collins who broke GVSU's school record in the 800 with a time of 1:52.18.

Collins' time currently leads the nation in the 800. The old time of 1:53 was held by Doug Kiuper in 1982 and was the oldest mark still in the GVSU record books.

Senior Steph Kuhlman and Krista O'Dell also set NCAA Provisional Qualifying times in the 800 meter. Kuhlman finished first overall with a time of 2:11.00 with O'Dell right behind her in second with a time of 2:11.19. Their two times are the top two times in the nation at this point.

Junior Mandi Zemba finished second in the mile and improved on her time finishing in 4:53.82.

The Lakers will send student-athletes to both the Kent State Doug Raymond Invitational and the D2 Challenge hosted by Findlay on Saturday, Feb. 5.
