Lakers Earn GLIAC Honors After Fall Portion Of 2009-10 Campaign

Bay City, Mich. - Grand Valley State placed six student-athletes on the 2009 All-GLIAC Women's Tennis team it was announced by the GLIAC office. Grand Valley State finished third at the 2009 GLIAC Tournament and finished the fall with a 10-3 mark overall and a 6-2 ledger in league action.

Four Lakers earned second team honors as selected by the GLIAC coaches. Chelsea Johnston (Novi, Mich./Northville), Tara Hayes (Shelby Twp., Mich.), Katelyn Schaffer (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser) and Darylann Trout (Clarkston, Mich.) earned second-team honors, while Rachel Rendina (Monroe, Mich./St. Mary's) and Jackie Shipman (Saline, Mich.) earned honorable-mention plaudits.

Johnston turned in an 11-3 mark, including a 10-1 mark at No. 3 singles, while Trout was 11-1 overall and 9-1 at No. 4 singles. Hayes was 6-8 overall and 4-7 at No. 1 singles and Schaffer was also 6-8 overall and 4-6 at No. 2 singles. Rendina was 8-1 overall and 7-1 at No. 6 singles, while Shipman was 9-3 overall and 8-2 at No. 5 singles. In doubles action, GVSU was 9-4 at No. 1 doubles, 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and 10-3 at No. 3 doubles.

The Lakers will return to action Feb. 19 at DePauw.
