Freshman Darylann Trout earned her first GLIAC Player of the Week honors for her performance against three GLIAC opponents last week. Trout went 5-0 last week as she helped Grand Valley State end the fall regular season with a 9-1 record. She was the first player of the season to have success against Northwood, defeating Nicole Kromer, 6-3, 7-6 at #5 singles and teamed up with Chelsea Johnston at #3 doubles to knock off Kromer and Maelys Scerri, 8-3. Trout was also victorious in both of her singles and doubles matches against Findlay and Wayne State.

Trout and the Lakers will play in the GLIAC Tournament starting Saturday morning in Midland, Mich. The tournament has a double-loss elimination format. Grand Valley State earned the #2 seed and will play #7 Ferris State. The Lakers defeated the Bulldogs already with a 9-0 sweep in Big Rapids on October 5th. The winner will advance to play the winner of the 3 vs. 6 match, which involves Ashland and Wayne State, while the loser will play the loser of the same match. The second match will take place later on Saturday.

So far in 2007, GVSU has had success against its GLIAC opponents, earning a 9-1 record and a second place standing. The only loss was suffered at the hands of Northwood. In last year's GLIAC tournament, the Lakers advanced all the way to the Championship match, where they were ousted by Northwood to a 5-1 count. In the past two seasons, Grand Valley has only dropped three of its last 22 GLIAC matches, all coming at the Northwood.
