Oct. 5, 2007

The GVSU women's tennis team improved to 6-0 on the year with a convincing 9-0 shutout of Ferris State on Friday afternoon. The Lakers remain perfect overall and in the GLIAC, where they are tied for first with a 5-0 record. Grand Valley will not see action until October 13, when it travels to Saginaw Valley State for a GLIAC tilt.

GVSU cruised in doubles play, sweeping the Bulldogs in all three matchups. Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte earned an 8-1 win in the No. 1 slot. Chelesea Johnston and Darylann Trout handled their opponents, 8-4. Jackie Shipman, seeing the first doubles action of her career, teamed up with Katelyn Grashorn for an 8-5 win.

Singles action saw much of the same, as the Lakers won all six of their matches in straight sets. Jaime Oppenlander, playing in her first match of the fall 2007 season, earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Koopsen won 6-3, 6-4 in No. 1 singles. Johnston, who has played herself into the No. 2 singles, also picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win. GVSU's remaining three freshmen, Grashorn, Trout, and Shipman all earned victories over their Bulldog counterparts.
