Skillman, N.J. - Grand Valley State University's men's and women's tennis teams were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Aug. 8. The women's team won the ITA All-Academic Team Award, while seven different GVSU student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
On the men's side, both Renato Tamashiro and Patrick Troy earned Scholar-Athlete honors. Five women also earned Scholar-Athlete plaudits, led by senior and No. 1 singles player Jenna Killips. Joining her were Katelyn Grashorn, Audrey Koopsen, Jaime Oppenlander and Emily Zellner.
In order to earn the team award, a program has to earn a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or above. All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the eligibility forms and have competed in at least one varsity match must average into the team's GPA. Individually, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at his or her current school for at least two semesters in order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
