Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State's women's tennis coach John Black announced the signing of three student-athletes to attend and play tennis for the Lakers. AnneMarie Morin (Rochester Hills, Mich.), Alexandra "Lexi" Rice (Richland, Mich.), and Nicole "Niki" Shipman (Saline, Mich.) will all be joining the squad for the 2010-11 season.
"I am very excited to have these outstanding student-athletes join our tennis program," said head coach John Black. "All three have the tools, talent and work ethic to make a major impact on our team."
Morin, who is currently enrolled at Rochester Adams, has been a three-year starter at #1 singles and is the #4 ranked senior in Michigan. Morin has compiled an overall record of 47-18 at Rochester Adams and is a two-time first-team all-state honoree. Morin advanced to the semifinals at 1st singles as junior in 2009. She is ranked #58 in the USTA Midwest Section in girls 18 and under and is a three star recruit on Tennisrecruiting.net.
Rice, currently attending Gull Lake High School, has been a three year starter and compiled an overall record of 66-9 under Coach Roger Cornelius. She won the individual State Championship her freshman year at #2 singles and has been a three-time first-team all-state performer. Alexandra is ranked #52 in the USTA Midwest Section in girls 18 and under and a three star recruit on Tennisrecruiting.net.
Shipman, currently enrolled at Saline High School, has compiled an overall record of 70-18 in her three years on the squad. Niki is a two-time first-team all-state honoree and received honorable mention plaudits as a freshman. Shipman is ranked #53 in the USTA Midwest Section in girls 18 and under and is a three star recruit on Tennisrecruiting.net. In addition, Shipman is ranked as the #5 senior in Michigan.
