The Grand Valley State women's tennis team defeated the #7-seed Wayne State for the second time this week. The Lakers recorded a 5-2 win over the Warriors. This time, the win put the #2-seeded Lakers into the second round of the GLIAC Tournament. GVSU advances to play the #3-seed Ferris State at 2:00 on Friday afternoon in what will be its second match of the day.

The Lakers took two of three doubles matches from Wayne State. In the No. 1 doubles slot, Emily Zellner and Lindsay Grimmer took care of business defeating Dee Mays and Steph Nicolson, 8-5. The team of Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte was also victorious, recording a tough 9-7 win over Colette Cabot and Amanda Pressotto. Jenna Killips and Jaime Oppenlander fell in the No. 3 slot, 8-5, to Sargam Bhatt and Meghan Luzod.

GVSU only needed to play four singles matches to defeat the Warriors. Audrey Koopsen locked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Steph Nicolson. McCall Monte won her match over Meghan Luzod by a 6-3, 6-2 count. Rounding out the singles victories in the No. 6 slot was Jaime Oppenlander, who tallied a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sargam Bhatt. Emily Zellner was the lone Laker to fall, going down 6-2, 6-0, at the hands of Dee Mays.

GVSU continues GLIAC Tournament play against Ferris State later Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
