Grand Valley State's women's tennis team defeated Wayne State, 5-0, in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament Friday. The Lakers advance to the second round against Ferris State on Friday, Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
Senior Alison Koopsen defeated Steph Nicolson, 6-4, 6-1 at #1 singles and at #2 singles freshman Lindsay Grimmer picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win over Dee Mays. Sophomore Jenna Killips won 6-4, 6-2 at #3 singles against Amanda Pressotto. Freshman Jaime Oppenlander defeated Sargam Bhatt in the #5 spot, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 and sophomore Stefanie Prociv won 6-2, 6-3 against Olga Petrovic in the #6 singles slot.
Grand Valley finished in fourth place in the GLIAC Tournament last season.
