The Grand Valley State women's tennis team picked up another win on Saturday over Saginaw Valley State by an 8-1 margin. The Lakers improve their record to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in the GLIAC. So far, the GVSU has cruised through GLIAC competition, with its closest match being a 7-2 victory over Lake Superior State. The Lakers will face their stiffest competition of the season on Tuesday, when they travel to Midland to face perennial GLIAC power Northwood in a fight for first place.

GVSU improved its record in doubles to 30-7 on the year, sweeping the redbirds in doubles matches. Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte won in No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 win. Jenna Killips and Emily Zellner earned an 8-2 win and improved their record to 10-1 on the season win the victory. In No. 3 doubles, the freshman duo of Chelsea Johnston and Darylann Trout won in a shutout, 8-0. The duo now stands at a team-best 11-1 on the year.

The Lakers stole five of six singles matches en route to the win. In a strange match, Killips defeated Katie Hanover in the first set by a 6-0 count, was blanked in her second set, 0-6, and rallied for the three-set win, 6-3. Koopsen earned a 6-1, 6-3 win in No. 2 singles. Katelyn Grashorn picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 4 doubles and stands at 11-1 on the year. Trout won by a 6-2, 6-1 count and freshman Jackie Shipman saw business as usual with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of her opponent. Shipman has yet to lose on the year and stands at a perfect 10-0. Trout improved her record to 10-2. As a team, Grand Valley is an impressive 59-11 on the year.
