Grand Valley State's women's tennis team defeated Mercyhurst College, 7-2 on Friday. GVSU improves to 5-1 overall and 5-1 in the GLIAC. The Lakers will play a GLIAC match at Ashland on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a non-conference match with Tiffin at 3:30 p.m.
Grand Valley won two out of three doubles matches and five of the six in singles action. Sophomore Emily Zellner and senior Alison Koopsen won 8-6 at #1 doubles, while sophomore Jenna Killips and freshman Audrey Koopsen picked up an 8-1 win at #3 doubles. Freshman Lindsay Grimmer and freshman Jaime Oppenlander were defeated 8-6 at #2 doubles.
Alison Koopsen won 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 at #1 singles, Gimmer defeated her opponent 7-5, 6-3 at #2 singles, and Killips tallied a 6-4, 6-1 win at #3 singles. Oppenlander picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win at #4 singles and Audrey Koopsen won, 6-4, 6-3 at #6 singles. Zellner suffered a 7-6, 6-1 loss in the #4 singles slot.
