The Grand Valley State women's tennis team improves to 2-0 on the season with a 7-2 win over Mercyhurst. This marks the Lakers' second win in as many days as they defeated Ashland 9-0 on Friday. GVSU will see action against Kalamazoo Valley Community College Saturday afternoon and will continue at home against Northwood on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 3:30 p.m.

The Lakers won five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches en route to their 7-2 win. Sophomore Lindsay Grimmer defeated Mercyhurst's Jennifer Daly in the #1 singles slot, 6-3, 6-3. In #2 singles, Jenna Killips won her match, 6-2, 6-0. Audrey Koopsen stays unbeaten in singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 over Chelsea Downing. Junior Emily Zellner won her match 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 10-2. Also victorious for Grand Valley was Jaime Oppenlander, recording a 6-1, 6-2 win. McCall Monte dropped her match 6-3, 6-2 to Elizabeth Mullane.

In doubles play, the team of Emily Zellner and Lindsay Grimmer defeated Jamie Sutyak and Jennifer Daly, 8-3. Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte recorded an 8-2 win in #2 doubles. Jenna Killips and Jaime Oppenlander dropped an 8-3 decision at the hands of Elizabeth Mullane and Chelsea Downing.
