Midland, Mich. - Grand Valley State University started off the 2008-09 season by winning every set in a 9-0 blanking of Saginaw Valley State. The Lakers (1-0, 1-0 GLIAC) dominated the Cardinals in both singles and doubles play in their first match of the season. GVSU will take part in the ITA Regional Tournament in Midland, Mich. from Sept. 19-21.

The Lakers went up 3-0 quickly following doubles play. Audrey Koopsen and Jaime Oppenlander won 8-5 in the first slot, while Chelsea Johnston and Darylann Trout claimed an 8-1 victory at second doubles. In the third flight, Katelyn Schaffer and Jackie Shipman won 8-2.

Koopsen claimed another victory at first singles, winning 6-1, 6-4. Johnston took the second spot with a 6-2, 6-0 win and Schaffer defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-0 at third singles. Trout won the fourth spot with a 6-4, 6-1 score and Shipman claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win at fifth singles. Oppenlander rounded out the win with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory at sixth singles.
