GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Grand Valley State picked up a 7-2 win over Calvin College on Thursday, running its win streak to four matches. It was the Lakers' final match heading into the NCAA Division II Championships on May 7. GVSU is now 21-6 overall and is ranked No. 27 in Division II.
The Lakers took all three points in double competition, starting with an 8-5 win by Chelsea Johnston and Darylann Trout in the top spot. Katelyn Schaffer and Jackie Shipman won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and Jaime Oppenlander and Rachel Rendina closed out doubles play with an 8-2 win in the third slot.
GVSU took four of the six points in singles play. Johnston and Trout won at second and third singles, respectively. Johnston won 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 and Trout earned a 6-1, 6-4 win after that. Oppenlander and Rendina earned the other two points. Oppenlander took a 6-3, 6-0 win at fifth singles and Rendina won 6-2, 6-2 in sixth singles.
