Laker Women Open Spring Trip With Wins Over Presbyterian and Walsh

Star Island, Fla. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins to open the its spring trip to Florida. GVSU, now 22-0 on the year, claimed a 4-3 win over DI foe Presbyterian and an 8-1 victory over Walsh. The Lakers will continue their play in Florida with matches versus Rockhurst and Winona State Tuesday (March 8).

The Lakers match versus Presbyterian was played under DI rules where seven total points are played. Three doubles matches are worth one point (winning two of three matches is one point), followed by six singles matches. Presbyterian captured the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Presbyterian won tight matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but GVSU claimed wins at No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to claim the win. Chelsea Johnston won a three set affair (6-4, 2-6, 6-1) at No. 3 singles, followed by Lexi Rice's 6-1, 0-6, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Darylann Trout won in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) at No. 5 singles and Anne Marie Morin claimed a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles.

GVSU claimed an 8-1 victory over Walsh, winning all three doubles matches and five of six on the singles side.
