ORLANDO, Fla. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team split on its second day of spring break competition, falling to Division I foe Providence, 5-2, before dropping Meredith, 8-1, on Tuesday.
In playing a Division I opponent, only seven points are counted in the Lakers loss, however every spot finished their match.
Lexi Rice defeated Alana Prinos, 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 in singles plays in the No. 3 spot, while Morgan Carney also earned a win, 7-5, 6-3, against Olivia Hogan in the No. 4 spot. In doubles, Leah Dancz and Allison Fecko paired to pick up an 8-6 victory in the No. 2 spot.
GVSU swept through Meredith recording four spots without allowing a set. In doubles, Morgan Patterson and Kelly Trapp went 8-0 against Taylor Brennan and Mary Lawrence Newton in the No. 3 position. Claire Cooper and Kali Phillips won 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles spot, while Anne Marie Morin and Kristina Lucas paired up at the No. 2 position to win, 8-2.
Phillips, Lucas and Trapp had 6-0, 6-0, wins at the No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. Patterson defeated Newton, 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot, while Morin went, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot.
Grand Valley State now takes a day off before resuming play against Montana State-Billings on Thursday at 8 a.m. The squad will then split and face Coe College and regional foe Bellarmine at 1 p.m.
