Laker Women Finish Eighth At NCAA Championship With 180 Points

The Grand Valley State women's swimming and diving team recorded a school-best eighth-place finish (180 Points) Saturday (Mar. 13) night at the NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships in Canton, Ohio. The Lakers' previous best-ever finish was ninth in 2009. Drury claimed the team title with 657 points, followed by Wayne State (531). The GLIAC had four team represented among the top nine. Ashland was seventh (183) and Indianapolis was ninth (171).

Sophomore Toni Musto (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Easter) finished seventh in the 200 breast (2:21.25), while fellow sophomore Lauren Dorsey (Howell, Mich.) touched eighth (2:21.32). Senior Sam Stump (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) earned the first of her two all-america awards with a 15th-place finish in the 200 breast (2:23.63). The Lakers' 400 free relay team of Kim Baughman (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison), Kelsey Vermeer (Rockford, Mich.), Stump, Katelyn Childers (St. Johns, Mich.) finished ninth in a time of 3:29.49.

Fourteen student-athletes earned a total of 30 all-america awards, led by Vermeer's five, Baughman's four and Childers' four.
