GVSU Women Eighth At NCAA Championships With 137 Points

Canton, Ohio - The Grand Valley State women's swimming & diving team enters the final day of competition at the 2010 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships in eighth place with 137 points. Drury leads the way with 473 points, while GLIAC rival Wayne State is in second with 415 points. The fourth and final day will begin with Saturday (Mar. 13) morning prelims.

Sophomore diver Karen Verbrugge (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) tallied her second all-america honor for the 2010 Championships with a second-place finish on the 1-meter board with a score of 447.05 points. Verbrugge now has four all-america honors in her career. Rachel Strom earned all-america honors with her seventh-place finish on the 1-meter board. Erin Kinney (Walker, Mich./West Catholic) tallied a 14th-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:06.85. The Lakers' 800 free relay team of Kinney, Marissa Doepker (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison), Melissa Faletti (South Lyon, Mich.) and Katelyn Childers (St. John's, Mich.) touched the wall in 7:39.16 for a ninth-place finish.
