Canton, Ohio - The Grand Valley State women's swimming and diving team is in eighth-place at the 2010 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving National Championships in Canton, Ohio. The Lakers moved up two spots in the team ranking with 82 points after the Thursday night finals. Competition will continue Friday (Mar. 12) with morning prelims.

The Lakers started strong with a sixth-place finish in the 200 free relay. Kelsey Vermeer (Rockford, Mich.), Jenna Faletti (South Lyon, Mich.), Allison Scholz (Ada, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central) and Kim Baughman (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison) touched the wall in 1:35.20. GVSU's 400 medley relay team of Vermeer, Lauren Dorsey (Howell, Mich.), Carly Bush (Grandville, Mich./Byron Center) and Katelyn Childers (St. Johns, Mich.) finished 10th in a time of 3:51.78. Childers added a 10th-place finish in the 200 freestyle when she stopped the clock in 1:53.06.

Drury leads the team rankings with 343 points, followed by Wayne State in second with 241 points.
