Canton, Ohio - Grand Valley State is 10th following the opening day of competition at the 2010 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving National Championships with 35 points. Drury leads the way with 156 points. The 2010 NCAA Championships will run through Saturday, Mar. 13 in Canton, Ohio.

Sophomore Karen Verbrugge (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) got the Lakers rolling when she finished 7th on the 3-meter board with an 11-dive score of 416.15. Sophomore Rachel Strom (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) finished 10th with a score of 353.40. Junior Kim Baughman (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison) finished 13th in the 50 free with a time of 23.79, while freshman Kelsey Vermeer (Rockford, Mich.) finished 15th in 23.85. The Lakers' 200 medley relay team of freshman Marissa Orr (Grandville, Mich.), sophomore Lauren Dorsey (Howell, Mich.), Vermeer and Baughman touched 12th in a time of 1:46.24.
