GVSU Stays In Second Place After Day Two At GLIAC Championships

Ashland, Ohio - Grand Valley State stayed in second place with 220 points at the 2007 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships. Wayne State leads the way with 253.5, followed by GVSU (220) and Indianapolis (218). Day three will begin Friday morning with prelims.

The Lakers turned in another stellar day in the water, beginning with a third-place finish in the 200 free relay. Allison Scholz, Eli Leskovar, Alison VanKampen and Sam Stump touched in 1:39.59 to score 32 team points. Leskovar went on to place seventh in the 500 free with a time of 5:18.51, while Megan Hahler touched in 12th place (5:20.42).

Sophomore Jenna Thayer just missed out on a GLIAC Championship in the 200 IM. Thayer finished in a time of 2:08.65, just behind the winning time of 2:08.63. Alison VanKampen finished fourth (2:10.86), Sam Stump ninth (2:13.49) and Danielle Buglio 12th (2:16.44). GVSU scored 46 team points in the event. Alison Scholz turned in a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle (24.71), while Melissa Faletti touched in 13th (25.48) and Amy Williams in 14th (25.58).

The Laker 400 medley relay team finished second with a time of 3:57.85. The 400 medley relay team entered the finals seeded first after swimming a fast 3:57.17 morning prelim time.
