Detroit, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's swimming and diving team remained in second place following the third day of competition at the 2010 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships. Wayne State leads the way with 652 points, followed by GVSU (572), Ashland (324), Indianapolis (274) and Findlay (247. The fourth and final day will begin Saturday morning with prelims at 10:30 a.m., with Saturday's finals set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
Grand Valley State sophomore Toni Musto opened the third day with a school-record time in the 400 IM prelims. Musto bettered Jenna Thayer's time of 4:36.11 when she touched the wall in 4:32.93. Musto, who hit the NCAA DII "A" standard with her prelim seim, then tallied a second-place finish in the finals with her time of 4:36.08. Freshman Kaci Swieter hit the "B" standard with her third-place finish in a time of 4:38.20. Junior Erin Lynch recorded a fifth-place finish with her time of 4:44.01. Sophomore Carly Bush recorded a sixth-place finish in the 100 butterfly (58.30) and hit the NCAA "B" mark in the process. Senior Allison Scholz finished 13th in a time of 59.59.
Junior Katelyn Childers hit the NCAA "B" mark in the 200 free with her fourth-place finish in a time of 1:54.60, while freshman Marissa Doepker also hit the "B" standard (1:55.51) with her sixth-place finish. Senior Melissa Faletti added a 10th-place finish when she touched the wall in 1:57.50. The Lakers added two more "B" marks in the 100 breaststroke as sophomore Lauren Dorsey touched fourth (1:06.27) and Sam Stump fifth (1:06.72). Freshman Jenna Faletti picked up a 12th-place finish in a time of 1:09.25.

Freshman Kelsey Vermeer, junior Kim Baughman and freshman Marissa Orr each hit the NCAA qualifying mark in the 100 backstroke for the Lakers. Vermeer, who set a school-record in the morning prelims with her time of 57.75, finished fourth in a time of 58.04 in the finals, while Baughman touched sixth (58.95) and Orr ninth (59.13).
Sophomore diver Karen Verbrugge turned in the performance of the day when she claimed her second straight GLIAC title on the 1-meter board with a school-record score and a GLIAC Championship meet record total of 461.01. Rachel Strom added a fourth-place finish on the 1-meter board with an 11-dive total of 410.80.
GVSU's 800 free relay team of Erin Kinney, Marissa Doepker, Melissa Faletti and Katelyn Childers touched the wall third in a time of 7:43.81.
