Holland, Mich. - Grand Valley State claimed a 192-103 victory over Hope College Friday night at the Holland Aquatic Center. The No. 2-ranked Lakers won 13 events en route to the victory. The Laker women will complete at Indianapolis Saturday (Jan. 24).
GVSU started strong with a win in the 200 medley relay. Kelsey Vermeer, Lauren Dorsey, Carly Bush and Kim Baughman touched first in a time of 1:51.09. Kelsey Reid tallied a second-place finish in the 1000 free (11:01.47), while Erin Kinney led a 1-2 finish in the 200 free (1:58.59). Sam Stump touched second in the 200 free (2:00.74). Vermeer touched first in the 50 back (28.50) and Dorsey led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 breast (31.83). Jenna Falette finished second (32.06) and Toni Musto third (32.48).
Marissa Doepker tallied a second-place finishes in the 100 fly (1:00.42) and 100 free (55.52), while Baughman claimed a in the 50 free (24.65). Vermeer touched first in the 100 back (1:01.50), followed closely by Marissa Orr in second (1:01.66). Musto notched a first-place finish in the 100 breast (1:07.78), followed by Dorsey in second (1:09.19). Kinney added another first when she touched in 5:14.58 in the 500 free. Kaci Swieter touched second (5:22.56). Bush finished first in the 50 fly (27.45) and Musto first in the 200 IM (2:12.48). Karen Verbrugge tallied a score of 260.40 on the 3-meter board to finish first, while her score of 274.80 on the 1-meter board was also good for first. GVSU closed the night with win in the 200 free relay as Vermeer, Falette, Allison Scholz and Baughman touched first (1:39.80).
