Allendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley State softball team participated in the Recreation Reaps Rewards program, which was held on the GVSU campus on Oct. 31st. Top students from the Grand Rapids Public Schools were on campus to learn about the academic and collegiate experience, while 13 members of the softball team took part in the project from noon to 6:00 p.m. on Halloween.
More than 200 students were on campus, as the softball team and other campus organizations and groups made the day quite a success. After the kids showed up around noon, the softball team gave them a tour of the Grand Valley State campus and completed a question and answer session. Everybody continued to the Laker Turf Building for a snack and participated in six 15-minute activity sessions, which included events like relay races, hula hoops, a jumbo puzzle, various relays, and bag decorating.
From 5:00 to 6:00, the students enjoyed Trunk or Treat in the GVSU parking lots, which was the Grand Valley State version of trick-or-treating, where kids went from car to car and collected candy from people tailgating before the Laker football game against Northern Michigan.
GVSU softball players that participated were: Rebecca Plummer, Emily Holt, Jackie Teutsch, Katie Martin, Kayleigh Bertram, Lauren Rohan, Lesley Bates, Maggie Kopas, Nellie Kosola, Andrea Nicholson, Becky Gill, Emily Jones, and Tina Briggs.
