Lakers Named To NFCA All-Academic Team

Grand Valley State's softball team has been named one of the NFCA All-Academic Teams. There are 61 teams in Division II that had a team GPA of 3.0 or better. The Lakers tallied the fourth highest GPA in Division II during the 2006-07 academic year with a 3.507.

Nine Lakers also earned NFCA Scholar Athlete honors. Athletes who achieve a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale are recognized as NFCA Scholar Athletes. The following student-athletes received the honor: Lori Andjelich, Breanne Kronberg, Lindsey Pierzynski, Rebecca Plummer, Lauren Rohan, Becky Rudenga, Stephanee Schrader, Elizabeth Smith, and Karen Walters.

Grand Valley State finished the season with a 36-18 overall and 12-6 GLIAC record. The Lakers advanced all the way to the Great Lakes Region Championship game, before falling to Southern Illinois Edwardsville, 10-1. GVSU is lead by Doug Woods who just finished his 17th year as head coach for the Lakers.
