Sophomore pitcher Stephanie Cole and senior third baseman Denise Ireton earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV College Division Softball Team honors for their outstanding performance both in the classroom and on the field.
Cole was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV College Division Softball First Team and will be put on the Academic All-America® ballot. Ireton received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV College Division Softball Second Team honors.
Cole, a biomedical science major, earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors this season after leading the Lakers with a 17-4 overall record. She posted a 1.80 ERA, throwing 147.2 innings of action, while allowing 38 earned runs and striking out 73 batters.
Ireton, a history major, was also named to the All-GLIAC Second Team. She tallied a .292 batting average in her last season with the Lakers, posting eight doubles, three triples and a team-high seven home runs.
Grand Valley State tallied a 35-21 overall record this season. The Lakers captured the GLIAC Tournament title and made their seventh Great Lakes Region Tournament appearance in eight years.
The District IV Academic team was selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) located in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama and the College Division includes student-athletes at Division II and III institutions plus NAIA schools.
