Allendale, Mich. - GVSU junior Breanne Kronberg was named to the 2009 Daktronics Inc. All-Midwest Region Team on Wednesday (May 13). Kronberg was selected as a First Team member, as she was the lone catcher chosen on the top unit. This announcement comes on the heels of Kronberg's selection to the All-GLIAC Second Team on May 1.
Kronberg had a tremendous offensive season for the Lakers, hitting .358 in 51 games, while leading GVSU in batting average, hits (57), doubles (17), homers (six), RBI (41), total bases (94), slugging percentage (.591), and on-base percentage (.415). Defensively, she was the only player in the GLIAC to not commit an error the entire season while having more than 100 total chances. Her 1.000 fielding percentage was on 185 total chances, including 172 putouts.
In terms of league comparisons, Kronberg was first in the conference in RBI and doubles, third in hits and total bases, fourth in slugging percentage, fifth in batting average and on-base percentage, and ninth in home runs. Her 17 doubles this season are second-most ever by a GVSU player in a single season. Her 10 career roundtrippers places her eighth all-time in Laker history.
It is the first time Kronberg has earned Daktronics All-Region honors, as she was one of just 13 players on the first team and 26 players total among the first and second squads. Eight of the 13 first team members and 17 of the 26 players from both teams competed in the GLIAC. She is joined on the first team by fellow GLIAC players Shannon Gray (Ashland, first base), Amanda Harrington (Ferris State, second base), Rebecca Stanley (Wayne State, third base), Logan Hursey (Ashland, utility player), Marsha Beaubein (Saginaw Valley State, outfield), Angela Kaiser (Saginaw Valley State, outfield), and Casey Hanes (Wayne State, pitcher). Beaubein was named the region's player of the year, while Missouri-St. Louis' Allyson DeFosset was tabbed the region's pitcher of the year.
