Midland, Mich. - Junior utility player Breanne Kronberg was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team on Friday (May 1), with the awards being released on the opening day of the GLIAC Softball Tournament. Senior pitcher Lori Andjelich and freshman catcher Carli Raisutis earned all-league honorable mention laurels for GVSU.
Kronberg was an honorable mention selection in 2008, but produced a terrific offensive season for the Lakers. She led Grand Valley State in batting average (.358), hits (57), doubles (17), homers (six), RBI (41), slugging percentage (.591), and on-base percentage (.415). Her 17 doubles are second in Laker single-season history, while her 41 RBI is just one short of placing her in the single-season top-10. Kronberg led the GLIAC in RBI and doubles, was second in hits, third in total bases (94), and sixth in batting average and slugging percentage. She also did not commit an error in 185 chances, mostly behind the plate as one of GVSU's two catchers.
Andjelich finished the year with an 19-8 overall record and a 1.49 earned run average. She tossed 22 complete games in 25 starts, including five shutouts and the third no-hitter of her career. In 183.1 innings pitched, she allowed just 45 runs, while striking out 152 batters. Andjelich ranked second in the GLIAC in wins and innings pitched, fourth in strikeouts and opponents batting average, and sixth in earned run average.
Raisutis had a solid freshman campaign, hitting .284 with 42 hits, five doubles, and 13 RBI. She started all 49 games in which she played and was third on the team in hits, and fourth in batting average and slugging percentage. Raisutis made just six errors in 183 total chances for a .967 fielding percentage, while splitting time at catcher with Kronberg.
Saginaw Valley State's Marsha Baubien was named the player of the year, while Wayne State's Casey Hanes was tabbed the league's pitcher of the year. Ashland's Emlyn Knerem earned freshman of the year honors, while AU's Sheilah Gulas was named the conference's coach of the year.
