Grand Valley State head softball coach Doug Woods tallied his 600th career win with a 4-3 victory in eight innings over Wayne State on Saturday. Woods has posted a 600-264-3 (.694) overall and 204-101-1 (.668) GLIAC record in 16 years as the head coach at GVSU.

Woods began his tenure at GVSU in 1991 and has tallied 14 winning seasons, including 11 with 30+ wins. He led the Lakers to six straight NCAA Tournament berths (1999-2004) and won 40+ games in seven straight season (1997-2003). In addition, Grand Valley State has posted a winning record in the GLIAC for 13 consecutive years.

In 2002, he took the Lakers to their best finish in school history, a NCAA DII National runner-up finish. GVSU finished 49-12-1 on the year and number two in the NFCA Top 25 poll. It was GVSU's first ever World Series after four consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament.

Grand Valley State will conclude the regular season with a GLIAC doubleheader at Lake Superior State on Monday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m. The Lakers have claimed the #5 seed in the GLIAC Tournament that will be hold in Midland, Mich. on May 5-6.
