Lakers Win First Game of NCAA Regional, 4-0 Over Northern Kentucky
 

 
 
 

 
Sara Vroegindewey hit a two-run homerun to help the Lakers in a 4-0 victory over Northern Kentucky.
 
 
Grand Valley State picked up a 4-0 win against Northern Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Division II Regional Championship. The Lakers will play the winner of Wayne State vs. Southern Illinois Edwardsville at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

With two outs, Jennifer Goldschmeding reached base on an error in the first inning. Sara Vroegindewey hit a two-run homerun to give the Lakers the early lead. Grand Valley added another run in the fourth inning, as Kerri Jonas and Rachel Blain both reached on bunt singles. They advanced on a pass ball and Jonas scored on a single by Erin Ballinger.

Grand Valley scored its final run in the fifth inning, as Vroegindewey reached on a bunt single and advanced on a sacrafice bunt by Bobbi Conner. Sara moved up on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Jonas.

Vroegindewey led the way on offense for the Lakers, going 2-for-3, with two RBI and two runs scored. Jonas and Ballinger also went 2-for-3 in the game.

Jennifer Mackson picked up her 26th win on the season, pitching a one hitter, while striking out seven. The Lakers improve to 47-4 on the year.
