Grand Valley State recorded its second GLIAC sweep in two days as they tallied 8-0 and 2-1 victories at Mercyhurst College on Saturday. GVSU improves to 16-16 overall and 7-5 in the GLIAC, while Mercyhurst falls to 11-14 overall and 2-6. GVSU will host Aquinas College in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 20 at 3:30 p.m.

Grand Valley jumped out to an early lead in game one as senior shortstop Sarah Paape homered to center field with one out in the first inning to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. GVSU posted another run in the third inning as junior left fielder Shelby Brayton led off the inning with a triple to center field and was brought in on a single by Paape.

The Lakers posted two more runs in the top of the fifth inning and three in the sixth to take a commanding 7-0 lead after six innings of play. Sophomore first baseman Crista Buresh was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth inning and advanced to second base as junior third baseman Denise Ireton walked with one out. Freshman right fielder Sarah Holland singled to right field and two runs scored on the single and an error by the right fielder. Junior center fielder Tara Marsh walked with one out in the top of the sixth inning. Paape recorded her second home run of the game two bring in two runs. Buresh walked and then scored on a single to right center by Ireton.

Grand Valley added one more run in the top of the eight inning to seal the 8-0 win. With two outs in the top of the seventh, Marsh recorded a bunt for a single. Paape walked, and Marsh scored on a single to center field by Buresh.

Junior Kristin Jenner pitched all seven innings, recording her seventh win of the season. She allowed just two hits and three walks, while striking out seven.

Paape was 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Holland was 3-for-4 with a RBI.

Grand Valley outhit Mercyhurst 10-2, but left 11 runners on base.

GVSU scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the early lead again in game two. Mercyhurst scored one run in the top of the sixth, but it wasn't enough as GVSU held on to the 2-1 win. Marsh reached base with one out in the third inning on an error by the second baseman and advanced to second on a sacrifice hit by Paape. Buresh was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. The Lakers put on the double steal, advancing Marsh to third and Buresh to second. Both runners scored on a single by freshman designated hitter Elizabeth Smith.

Sophomore Allison Crews (5-8) threw all seven innings, allowing five hits, one run, and a walk, while tallying five strikeouts. Ireton tallied two of the Lakers four hits in the game.
