Grand Valley State dropped both games of a doubleheader against Presbyterian College Monday in Ft. Myers, Fla. The Lakers fell, 8-4, in game one and 3-2 in game two. GVSU drops to 2-6 overall and will resume play with a doubleheader at Nova Southeastern in Ft. Lauderdale on Wednesday, March 9 beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Grand Valley went ahead 1-0 as they scored a run in the bottom of the first in game one. Freshman 2B Kristin Moleski reached first base with one out as she was hit by a pitch. Moleski moved to second base on a sacrafice bunt by senior SS Sarah Paape. Moleski stole third and then scored on an error by the catcher to give the Lakers the first run of the game.

Presbyterian College came back, however, and scored eight runs in the next two innings to take a 8-1 lead after the top of the third inning. Grand Valley added two runs of its own to cut the deficit to 8-3. Freshman DH Sarah Holland started the third inning off by reaching first base on an error by the third baseman and advanced to second base on a passed ball. She scored on a two out double by Moleski to center field. Moleski was knocked in as sophomore Crista Buresh singled to left field.

GVSU added one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning as freshman Elizabeth Smith pinch hit and reached first on a walk. Junior catcherMegan Smith doubled to left center, bringing in the fourth Laker run.

Moleski was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Buresh went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Smith was also 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Sophomore Allison Crews started the game for GVSU, pitching 2.2 innings. She allowed seven hits, eight runs, with three being earned. She tallied two strikeouts. Freshman Stephanie Cole threw the final 4.1 innings, giving up just three hits, while striking out two.

Presbyterian College struck first in game two, scoring all three of its runs in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Lakers tallied one run in the top of the fourth inning as Moleski started off the inning with a single to center field. She advanced to second base on a passed ball and scored as Paape singled to center field.

Grand Valley scored again in the sixth inning as junior CF Tara Marsh recorded a lead off walk. Moleski singled again, advancing Marsh to second base. Marsh stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

The runs were not enough, however, to overcome the three run first inning by Presbyterian.

Moleski was 2-for-2 with a run scored in the game, while Holland went 3-for-3.

Cole pitched all six innings, recording five strikeouts, while walking one. She allowed nine hits and all three runs.
