It took an extra inning, but Grand Valley was able to knock off Wingate 2-1. The Lakers improve to 8-1 on the season.
GVSU scored one run in the top of the first and Wingate scored in the fourth to tied the game at one. The game was still tied after seven innings, so the team went to the international tie break rule in the eighth. Each team places a runner on second base and is given an inning to try to score.
For the Lakers Rachel Blain was placed on second base to start the eighth inning. With one out Tara Marsh hit a single and the runners moved up on a ground out Miranda Titler. Jen Goldschmeding reached first on an error by the second baseman, which scored Blain.
The Lakers held Wingate in the bottom of the eight to seal the victory.
GVSU was lead by Tara Marsh who was 3-for-4 and Bobbi Conner who was 2-for-3. Jennifer Mackson picked up her fifth win of the season, allowing one run on three hits and striking out nine.
Grand Valley will play Missouri Valley College at 1 p.m.
