Grand Valley State dropped a 5-4 decision to LeMoyne College on Friday in Ft. Myers. GVSU falls to 1-1 on the season and will play Lynn University at 10:00 a.m. and LeMoyne College at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Lakers scored first in the second inning as sophomore 1B Crista Buresh singled to right field to lead off the inning. Junior Denise Ireton moved over the runner on a sacrafice bunt. Junior LF Shelby Brayton singled to right field with two outs to score the Lakers first run.

LeMoyne posted two runs in the bottom of the second to take the 2-1 lead, but GVSU came back and added two runs in the top of the third to go up 3-2. Freshman Sarah Holland singled to left field to start the third inning and advanced to second as junior CF Tara Marsh reached first on an error by the shortstop. The runners moved to second and third on a passed ball. The Lakers recorded back-to-back singles by senior SS Sarah Paape and Buresh to score the two runs.

The Dolphins recorded another run in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3. However, the Lakers took back the lead, scoring a run in the top of the fifth. Marsh bunted for a single to lead off the inning and moved over to second base on a sacrafice bunt by freshman 2B Kristin Moleski. Paape doubled to center field to score the run.

Paape went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Buresh was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Brayton, Holland, and Marsh all recorded a hit for the Lakers.
