Grand Valley State's Jennifer Mackson pitched a perfect game as the Lakers defeated Salem International 3-0. Mackson broke GVSU's career strikeout record on the first batter she faced in the game. The record of 476 strikeouts was previously held by Amber Castonguay ('99-'02). Mackson struck out eight of the first nine batter she faced and ended the game with 16.
On the offensive side for the Lakers, SS Kerri Jonas was 2-for-3 and 2B Jen Goldschmeding was 1-for-3 with a double, run scored, and a RBI. Right-fielder Rachel Blain batted in the other two GV runs.
Mackson improves to 2-0 on the season and the Lakers are 2-1. Grand Valley will play Dominican University at 11 a.m.
