Grand Valley State won its first game of spring trip, 8-0, in six innings over Florida Gulf Coast. The Lakers were led by Jen Mackson, who pitched a three-hitter and recorded seven strikeouts. Her seven strikeouts tied GVSU's career strikeout record which was set by Amber Castonguay last season.
2B Jen Goldschmeding went 2-for-4, with a RBI and a run scored. SS Kerri Jonas and 1B Sara Vroegindewey each hit homeruns to lead Grand Valley.
The Lakers will play Florida Gulf Coast in the second game of a doubleheader at 7:00 p.m.
