Dana Callihan is set to begin her 12th season as an assistant coach for the Lakers. Callihan was a four-year letterwinner as a catcher for GVSU (1988-92), playing her last two seasons under current head coach Doug Woods. During her time at Grand Valley State, the Lakers have totaled a 394-174 overall record (.694), including a 165-83 mark (.665) in GLIAC play.
Over the years, Dana has been involved in numerous aspect of softball, as she has played and coached slow-pitch, fast-pitch, and baseball. During the past five years, Callihan has also been a high school softball umpire in the Grand Rapids area. Dana organized, played, and coached a women's baseball team, which played in the first official women's baseball game held at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
Originally from Clare, Mich., Callihan attended Clare High School, where she played softball, volleyball, and basketball. She was also a member of Fellowship for Christian Athletes and National Honor Society.
Callihan graduated from Grand Valley State with a bachelor's of science in Industrial Technology. Dana worked as a quality engineer and training coordinator for eight years with local automotive manufacturing companies.
Callihan completed her master's degree in sports administration at Central Michigan in 2009. Dana and her husband, Charlie, reside in Lowell, Mich. with their son Zachary.
