KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Grand Valley State women's soccer coach David DiIanni was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Midwest Region Coach of the Year after leading the Lakers to their 10th straight NCAA Tournament berth.
Earning the honor for the third time in his 10-year tenure at Grand Valley State, DiIanni owns a 197-18-17 (.885) career record with the Lakers. With the completion of this season, he will now top the Division II coaching record book and place third across all divisions in winning percentage.
This season, DiIanni led GVSU to its fourth straight NCAA Final Four appearance, closing out the year with its fifth-consecutive 20-win season. DiIanni is responsible for the development of three NSCAA and Daktronics, Inc. All-America selections in seniors Ashley Botts, Alyssa Mira and Chelsea Parise this season as well as 11 others with him on the sideline.
Under DiIanni's watch, GVSU claimed its eighth straight GLIAC Tournament title while also finishing in a first-place tie in the regular season. Nine student-athletes earned All-GLIAC honors, while seven were named to the NSCAA All-Midwest Region teams. The Lakers also earned their seventh Midwest Region title with a 2-0 defeat of Wisconsin-Parkside in November.
DiIanni and the Lakers welcome back 20 student-athletes from this year's squad that went 20-2-3 and return with a 51-game home unbeaten streak on the line.
