Bay City, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced that Katy Tafler has been named the Women's Soccer Player of the Week on Sept. 29. Tafler becomes the third Laker to win the award in five weeks this season. The senior forward scored her 102nd goal, which tied her with former Ashland standout Kristy Richie for the GLIAC's all-time lead in goals scored.
Tafler scored three of the No. 1 Lakers' four goals this weekend, helping them to wins over Findlay (3-0) and Tiffin (1-0). She scored twice in the win over the Oilers and then notched the only goal of the match against the Dragons. She took over the team lead with eight goals and 19 points. She has taken 54 shots and placed 28 of them on goal (both team highs). GVSU (10-0, 5-0 GLIAC) will return home to take on Northwood at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3.
