Grand Valley State women's soccer team defeated Great Lakes Regional opponent Saint Joseph's College, 5-1, Wednesday. The Lakers improve to 13-3 overall and will host Findlay on Saturday, Oct. 23 and Ashland on Sunday, Oct. 24.

Saint Joseph's College took an early 1-0 lead as Erin Gallagher tallied the match's first goal at the 28:54 mark. Grand Valley came back to added to more goals of its own to take a 2-1 halftime lead. Junior forward Mirela Tutundzic tallied her 17th goal of the season at the 30:13 mark and junior forward Jenny Swalec posted a goal on a Shannon Carrier assist at the 32:36 mark.

The Lakers added three goals in the second half to seal the victory. Junior defender Rachel Bondy recorded her first goal of the season on a Tutundzic assist at the 52:30 mark and freshman forward Kristi Vandeberghe added the fourth goal for the Lakers at the 55:27 mark. Swalec added her second goal of the match on another Tutundzic assist at the 69:00 mark.

GVSU tallied 16 shots, while Saint Joseph's recorded just seven. Sophomore Erin Murphy recorded the shutout, recording two saves.
