Grand Valley State defeated Great Lakes Regional foe West Virginia Wesleyan, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers improve to 7-2 overall and have won four consecutive matches. GVSU will host the University of Charleston on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Grand Valley State will then begin Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Saginaw Valley State at noon.

GVSU took a 2-0 lead at halftime as sophomore defender Katie Ales recorded her first goal of the season on a sophomore midfielder Shannon Carrier assist at the 17:22 mark. Junior forward Jaci Lange added the second Laker goal at the 21:31 mark on another Carrier assist.

The Lakers added five more goals in the second half to give them the 6-0 win. The first came as Ales tallied her second goal of the match and season at the 59:06 mark on an assist by sophomore midfielder Andi Redmond. Freshman forward Courtney Finnerty added her first goal as a Laker at the 62:32 mark on a sophomore defender Jenny Junga assist. Freshman defender Susan Christenson recorded a goal at the 69:10 mark on assists by Carrier and junior forward Mirela Tutundzic. Tutundzic added the sixth Laker goal at the 69:52 mark. Redmond added the final goal on a rebound at the 88:19 mark.

Grand Valley has shutout their last four opponents. Twelve different Lakers have scored a goal and ten players have posted an assist this season.
