Buckhannon, WV - The Grand Valley State women's soccer team scored early and often Saturday afternoon en route to a commanding 7-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. Freshman Katy Tafler scored two goals and added three assists for the Lakers. Senior Mirela Tutundzic improved her career goals scored record by adding two goals on just three shots. Freshman Kristina Nasturzio improved to 8-0 on the year turning away West Virginia Wesleyan's only shot on goal of the game. The Lakers travel to Charleston, WV to take on the University of Charleston at 1 PM.
Tafler netted her first goal of the game just four minutes into the contest as the Lakers jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead. Tutundzic tallied her first goal at the 19 minute mark on a shot just in front of the goal after a pass from Tafler. The Lakers continued the scoring just 11 minutes later as Senior Katie Ales vollied in a shot past the West Virginia Wesleyan keeper after a header from Tafler.
Grand Valley started the second half off hot as they tallied three goals in a span of less than 11 minutes. Tafler netted her second of the day at the 48 minute mark, Tutundzic drilled home a penalty kick at the 52 minute mark, and Senior Jenny Swalec added her third goal of the season at the 59 minute mark. Sophomore Emily Berner capped off the scoring adding her second goal the season at the 62 minute mark, she also had an assist on the day. Nasturzio has played 619 minutes on the season and has allowed just one goal during that span.
