Lakers End Road Stint With 5-0 Victory Over Lewis

Grand Valley State ended its four-game road stint with a 5-0 victory over Lewis University on Sunday. The Lakers improve to 4-2 overall and will host Indianapolis on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 4:00 p.m.

Freshman forward Kristi Vandeberghe tallied her second goal of the season at the 12:48 mark to give the Lakers a 1-0 halftime lead. GVSU then added three more goals and a Lewis own goal to seal the 5-0 victory. Junior forward Mirela Tutundzic added back-to-back goals. Her first goal came at the 67:39 mark on a junior forward Jenny Swalec assist and the second was less than two minutes later at 69:19 on a freshman defender Jill Berman assist. The goals mark Tutundzic's sixth and sevnth of the season. Sophomore midfielder Shannon Carrier added the fifth goal, marking her second of the season.

Sophomore Erin Murphy recorded the shutout, posting two saves. The Lakers tallied 35 shots and five shots on goal and held the Flyers to just three shots and two shots on goal.
